The Essence series of engravings focuses on the witnesses to, and actors in, environmental changes that are the trees. I work directly with pieces of wood that have been found, harvested and forgotten. The traces on the surface of the wood tell us something about the tree, its environment, the species with which it coexists, and bears witness to their evolution. In addition to the marks left within the trunk, there are also marks left directly by the use of wood by man. 

By engraving the wood, the tools reveal these different imprints. Each impression graphically translates a new story where, detached from their matrix, the lines, the material and the voids complement each other to create an image that is both unique and universal.

In the shade of the tree, the trace of time remains as a witness of what we once were.
